About Dobanti

Our mission is to deliver really high quality property services at reasonable cost. We think it is important to be responsive to clients' needs and to support them with guidance and advice, as necessary, from the beginning to the end of our work for them - even, in fact, after our work has officially ended! We want our clients to feel comfortable communicating with us and confident that Dobanti will go the extra mile to deliver what they need.

Meet the Team

Tim Doherty

Director & Principal Surveyor

Tim is a recognised industry expert with an impressive range of core skills. He has worked in the property sector for over 40 years and has held board level positions with Buildstore, the National Self Build & Renovation Centre and Scandia Hus. He’s a founding member of NaCSBA, a government backed initiative to promote custom build housing in the UK. At one time he regularly spoke at industry conferences alongside well-known TV personality presenters and, for a number of years, wrote a monthly feature for Build It magazine. Tim holds multiple qualifications and is a Chartered Surveyor, a Chartered Builder and a former corporate member of the Chartered Institute of Housing. He has a genuine passion for property and is an enthusiastic pathologist who loves to solve construction problems. In recent years, Tim has expanded his expert witness work and, in August 2024, was admitted as a practising full member to The Academy of Experts (TAE). Tim has also had first hand experience of self-build; in 1995 he bought a plot of land and built his own home with wife Maddy and three young children in tow. He’s a true advocate for self-build and the benefits that it can bring.

Sue Ellefsen

Tim's PA & Client Liaison

Sue joined Dobanti in 2018 at a time in her life when a part time role would provide more flexibility for other commitments. However, the work at Dobanti is in constant flow and Sue can be found extending her hours on most days just to keep on top of things! Sue manages most of Dobanti's new client contact and, with exemplary skills in time management, ensures that Tim is usually in the right place at the right time. Sue has a degree in music and also makes fabulous biscuits.

Maddy Doherty

Director & Administration

Maddy had a long career in teaching before choosing to specialise in SEN in a part time role. In 2012 she supported Tim in setting up Dobanti and still performs an active role in helping to steward the business and its day to day organisation. Maddy now divides her time between Dobanti and her new interest in counselling support for which she has recently qualified. Maddy and Tim live in the house that they both built in 1995 and the Dobanti Studio is situated in their annexe.

Alan Holloway

Consultant

Alan is an architectural technician, a land surveyor and an excellent CAD draughtsman. He runs his own business and provides site and measured survey services to Dobanti as well as producing Dobanti's CAD drawings for planning, building control and on site contractors. Alan has worked for many years with high end timber frame and remains an expert in the preparation of details for production purposes as well as the accurate collection of data from initial site assessments. Alan lives locally in East Sussex.

Mike Mapston

Consultant

Mike is a Chartered Surveyor, engineer, builder and all round construction professional. Amongst other appointments, he runs his own consultancy, Mike Mapston Consult (MMC), with his main focus targeted to the new build sector where he is a leading specialist in off-site production specifications. Mike and Tim started the development of fully filled, clad and finished external wall production in the early/mid 1990s and they have worked together in various different capacities ever since. Mike provides consultancy services to Dobanti on a range of surveying issues but, most notably, energy efficiency and procurement for new build and individual product suitability and application. Mike lives in the original house that he built just outside the beautiful city of Bath.
